Installing WordPress on Fantastic NZ Hosting
WordPress is the world's most popular content management system, and it's incredibly easy to install on your Fantastic NZ Hosting account using Softaculous.
One-Click Installation via Softaculous
- Log into cPanel via your client area.
- Scroll to the Softaculous Apps Installer section and click WordPress.
- Click the Install Now button.
- Configure your installation:
- Choose Protocol: Select https:// (recommended for security).
- Choose Domain: Select the domain you want WordPress on.
- In Directory: Leave blank to install on the root domain, or enter a folder name (e.g., "blog" for yourdomain.co.nz/blog).
- Site Name: Enter your website name.
- Site Description: Enter a short tagline.
- Admin Username: Choose a username (avoid "admin" for security).
- Admin Password: Set a strong password.
- Admin Email: Enter your email address.
- Click Install.
After Installation
Once installed, you'll see two URLs:
- Website: https://yourdomain.co.nz — your live website
- Admin panel: https://yourdomain.co.nz/wp-admin — where you manage content, themes, and plugins
Recommended First Steps
- Choose a theme: Go to Appearance > Themes to change your site's look.
- Install essential plugins: We recommend Yoast SEO, UpdraftPlus (backups), and Wordfence (security).
- Set up permalinks: Go to Settings > Permalinks and choose "Post name" for clean URLs.
- Create pages: Add your Home, About, Contact, and other pages.
- Keep WordPress updated: Regularly update WordPress core, themes, and plugins for security.
