Setting Up Email Forwarding and Aliases

Email forwarding lets you automatically send copies of incoming emails to another address. This is useful for consolidating multiple email accounts or ensuring messages reach the right people.

Setting Up Email Forwarding

  1. Log into cPanel via your client area.
  2. Go to the Email section and click Forwarders.
  3. Click Add Forwarder.
  4. Enter the email address you want to forward from (e.g., info@yourdomain.co.nz).
  5. Enter the destination email address to forward to (e.g., your Gmail or other email).
  6. Click Add Forwarder.

Important Notes on Forwarding

  • Keep a local copy: If you also want to keep emails in the original mailbox, make sure the email account exists in cPanel. Forwarding alone just redirects — it doesn't store a copy unless the account exists.
  • Avoid forwarding to Gmail/Outlook in bulk: Large-volume forwarding can sometimes cause deliverability issues. For business use, we recommend using IMAP to access your FNZH mailbox directly.

Setting Up a Catch-All (Domain Forwarding)

A catch-all forwards any email sent to your domain that doesn't match an existing account:

  1. In cPanel, go to Email > Default Address.
  2. Select your domain.
  3. Choose "Forward to Email Address" and enter the destination.
  4. Click Change.

Warning: Catch-all addresses can attract a lot of spam. We generally recommend discarding emails to non-existent addresses instead.

Email Aliases

Aliases work just like forwarders — they create an alternative address that delivers to an existing mailbox. For example, you can create sales@yourdomain.co.nz as an alias that delivers to info@yourdomain.co.nz.

  1. In cPanel, go to Email > Forwarders.
  2. Click Add Forwarder.
  3. Enter the alias address (e.g., sales) and forward it to the existing mailbox.
