SpamShielder — FNZH's Anti-Spam Protection

Fantastic NZ Hosting includes SpamShielder anti-spam filtering to keep your inbox clean and your business email professional. SpamShielder scans all incoming email and filters out spam, phishing attempts, and malicious messages.

How SpamShielder Works

SpamShielder uses multiple layers of spam detection:

  • Real-time blacklists (RBLs) — checks sender IPs against known spam sources
  • Content analysis — scans message content for spam patterns
  • Bayesian filtering — learns from your spam/not-spam decisions
  • SPF/DKIM/DMARC validation — verifies sender authenticity
  • Virus scanning — blocks emails containing malware

Configuring SpamShielder in cPanel

  1. Log into cPanel via your client area.
  2. Go to the Email section and click Spam Filters.
  3. Ensure "Process New Emails and Mark them as Spam" is enabled.
  4. Optionally enable "Automatically Delete New Spam (Auto-Delete)" — but be careful, as this permanently deletes detected spam. We recommend leaving this off initially and reviewing your spam folder regularly.
  5. Click Additional Configurations to adjust the spam sensitivity score:
    • 5 (default): Good balance of filtering — catches most spam with few false positives.
    • 3-4: More aggressive — catches more spam but may occasionally flag legitimate emails.
    • 7-8: More lenient — lets more through but very few false positives.

Whitelisting and Blacklisting

To whitelist (always allow) or blacklist (always block) specific senders:

  1. In cPanel, go to Email > Spam Filters > Additional Configurations > Show Additional Configurations.
  2. Add email addresses or domains to the whitelist or blacklist as needed.

Tips for Kiwi Businesses

  • Whitelist important NZ senders like your bank, IRD, and key suppliers.
  • Check your spam/junk folder regularly for the first week to catch any false positives.
  • Report missed spam to help improve filtering accuracy.
